Siruseri, OMR – The Silicon Valley of Chennai Go Back
Just as the San Francisco Bay Area in California is known as “Silicon Valley” because it is home to many of the world's largest information technology corporations, as well as thousands of small and start-up companies, the IT belt of OMR has come to be known as the “Silicon Valley of Chennai”.
Land along OMR has been earmarked by the government to be a Cyber Corridor, and has been allotted to IT companies to establish their campuses there. Most of India’s large IT companies and hundreds of other smaller companies have some of their largest and most impressive offices on Old Mahabalipuram Road, which is also known as Rajiv Gandhi Salai. Lakhs of employees work along this IT corridor or “Silicon Valley” of Chennai.
Siruseri, which is today a significant part of the IT corridor and a South Eastern suburb of Chennai used to be just a village with vast expanses of land a little over a decade ago. Today, the area is home to SIPCOT IT Park, which is the largest IT Park in Asia. SIPCOT houses IT giants like Hexaware Technologies, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Syntel, Apollo and many more. TCS (Tata Consultancy Services)’s office in the Park represents the largest IT office in Asia!
SIPCOT Park has been developed by State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd. (SIPCOT), which was established in 1971 to bring about industrial growth in Tamil Nadu. The Park covers 1,000 acres (4 km2) of land. It has a separate sub-station for power supply, separate telephone exchange and high speed data connectivity.
Some educational institutions in the Park include Chennai Mathematical Institute, Mohamed Sathak A.J. College of Engineering, Madras Diabetes Research Foundation and Institute for Technology and Management (ITM).
OMR is home to some of Chennai’s well-known schools such as PSBB, BVM, Gateway and GT Aloha, among quite a few others. Prominent government institutions and technical/ educational institutions are also located along the IT corridor. The locality is also home to reputed hospitals - Global Hospital, Lifeline Hospital and Chettinad Hospital.
OMR even holds a “financial city”, with all banks under one roof.
Siruseri and the whole of OMR is very well-connected by road, with public buses plying to different routes. OMR is a very wide 6-lane road. There is a bypass from Egatore (Siruseri) to Thaiyur. There are 5 flyovers at major places from Tidel Park to Siruseri. There is a railway link from Taramani to Cuddalore via Tiruporur, Mamallapuram, Pondy.
IT professionals who have jobs along OMR as well as other staff of the IT firms here have been moving residence to the area in throngs. The demand for new real estate projects in Chennai’s OMR has thus been growing tremendously. Some of the best residential projects in Chennai have been springing up along the IT belt.
L&T Realty’s Eden Park is one of the very much talked-about upcoming residential projects in Chennai which consist of 1, 2, 3 & 3 BHK Premium Apartments as per budget of the buyers. In fact, the first phase is complete and has over 650 families already staying there. The complex has well-connected exit roads – to OMR, Medavakkam, as well as Vandalur road. Eden Park has a clubhouse with amenities including a swimming pool, gymnasium, multiple sports and games, an aerobics-cum-yoga room, reading lounge, etc. Outdoor activities include tennis and volleyball courts, a skating rink, jogging track, etc. The residential complex even has a department store, Laundromat, pharmacy, polyclinic, food court, cafeteria, bakery, salon, cybercafé, Bank extension, and ATM.
Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan (PSBB school), one of the leading schools in Chennai has opened its new wing in Eden Park, an integrated Township of L&T Realty at Siruseri, and has well-equipped labs and classrooms, and trained faculty. The school gives priority in admissions for the residents of Eden Park.
